Recording architecture

Local NVR storage vs. cloud camera storage

Local and cloud recording are not simply old and new versions of the same idea. Each changes how video is transported, stored, protected, accessed, and recovered, so the right choice depends on the property and operating requirements.

Local NVR recording

A network video recorder or recording server stores video at the property. It can support substantial retention and local operation, but the recorder, drives, network, backup power, physical security, updates, and remote-access configuration must be maintained.

Cloud recording

Cloud-based systems may store video or event clips off-site and centralize access across locations. Performance and cost depend on upload bandwidth, retention, camera support, service availability, licensing, and what continues recording if the connection is interrupted.

Hybrid recording

A hybrid approach may retain primary video locally while using cloud management, health monitoring, event clips, or selected archives. The design should document where each recording lives, who can access it, how long it is retained, and how an export is produced.
